Come away and rest awhile

In 2021, the Congregation of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, passed on its mission of welcoming people in the hermitages (prayer cabins) to the Chemin Neuf Community.

You will be warmly welcomed in a place of beauty and silence, a place of communion with nature, where peace, rest, renewal and comfort await you.

A house (for small groups of 8 people or less) or a hermitage (for individual stays) is available for you, with all the necessary equipment. All we ask is for you to bring your groceries, as well as your own toiletries, towels and sheets for the duration of your stay.

“The Lord is here, and he is calling you.”

The Val de Paix community house carries its name well: it is surrounded by forest and situated near a peaceful pond inviting one to prayer. The life of the Community is punctuated by prayer and service. In response to our call for Christian unity, we pay particular attention to this dimension.

The Community organizes a Cana session for couples every summer. It also offers a retreat between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Other spiritual renewals and Christian formation activities are also offered such as Bible study and weekends for youth and young adults.

The house is also available to accommodate Christian groups.

The home is open to students, end-of-study internship students, work-study students, young professionals between the ages of 18 and 30.

The Chemin Neuf Community arrived in Winnipeg in 2010 following an invitation from the Archdiocese of St-Boniface. Ted and Nancy Wood, two Community members from Winnipeg came to explore the possibility of establishing the Community in this province of Canada.

A year later, the Missionary Oblate Sisters generously donated the St-Charles Retreat Center to the Chemin Neuf community. Located in the western part of the city of Winnipeg on the banks of the Assiniboine River, the Community House serves the mission of the Community.

Currently, the Community offers healing meetings for young adults (18-30 years old), married couples and young families (Cana mission), and spiritual formation retreats. The St-Charles Retreat Center can also receive any other organization or Christian group for meetings or retreats.

You are also welcome to live a time of service for one or the other of the missions or to take a spiritual stay alone, with your family, or in a group. However, the missions are restricted due to the current pandemic.
