As an emergency doctor in war and disaster zones, Raphaël tirelessly expresses his indignation at the tragedies of conflict. He defines himself as a man of action: whether it’s treating suffering populations, training teams in the field or supporting his colleagues, Raphaël never shies away.

For him, being a Christian means being committed to his brothers and sisters in humanity. In this month’s film, this former marine commando shares his journey: his call to become a doctor in the army, the key encounters in his life, his experiences in the field, his commitment and his faith in God. His testimony evokes the gift of self and invites us to journey with him beyond borders, on a road of hope.

Presentation of Raphaël Pitti

Raphaël Pitti is currently running several projects with the HuSoMe association (Humanité, Solidarité, Médecine), a medical humanitarian NGO he founded in 2018. Its aim is to provide medical aid and train healthcare staff in areas where wars affect the civilian population.

At the same time, as a local councillor for the city of Metz, he works to implement social and humanitarian policies that meet the needs of the community.

Questions of sharing

• Raphaël Pitti describes his faith as putting his skills into action in the service of others, helping to ‘build a cathedral’. What skills or talents do I use (or could I use) in the service of others? In the service of the Church?
• This testimony invites us to reflect on emergency situations in the world and in our own lives: as Raphaël says, have I too experienced a decisive moment that allows me to say ‘Yes, I believe, God was obviously there’?

Talent multiplied

Each person names a talent or skill that they recognise, or that has already been recognised, and writes it on the first line of their sheet of paper in one sentence;

then each person passes the sheet to their neighbour on the right, who, on the next line, associates an image, a word, a biblical character or other characteristics that remind me of this quality or talent; they fold the sheet, leaving only what they have just written visible;

and passes it on to the neighbour on the right;

and so on until each person finds their sheet of paper completed by the others;
