"What must we do to really want peace? We need to be disarmed. A mysterious change within our hearts makes that possible. That’s why Jesus came: to break down the barriers that divide us."
Our calling in Net for God is to open up channels of peace and reconciliation in our churches and in the world. But the surest way of accomplishing this is to live it out in our own lives. Today, Jean Vanier, who founded L’Arche in 1964, invites us to embark on this way of peace and inner freedom.
Jean Vanier draws on his experience of over 40 years at L’Arche, where he has shared in the lives of mentally handicapped men and women. He see them as “masters in humanity”. Speaking to us from Jesus' homeland, he comments on Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem in chapter 12 of St John’s Gospel. He helps us understand that Jesus promises to change our hearts through His death and resurrection. It is Jesus, the Prince of Peace, who invites us to descend into the depths of our souls so that we can be released from our inner darkness, our fears, our inner wounds, to welcome and love every human being whoever he may be, and even if he is an enemy.
